Photography at the Zoo!

It has been 4 years since I’ve been to a zoo and let me tell you the Toronto Zoo did not disappoint! I have been to zoos in Germany, Australia and the United States and now finally I’ve visited one in my own back yard.

Zoos are a great place to get up close and personal with animals you may never get to see in the wild. I enjoy going to the zoo because it inspires me to travel and reminds me of why I started using a camera in the first place.

My first interest in photography was wild life. Whether it was neighbourhood cats, tiny insects or whales at Marineland, I loved photographing animals. The reason behind this is photographs of animals are more honest than portraits of humans. When you photograph an animal they can’t verbally communicate their life story to you…its all in their eyes. People on the other hand can create their own image and some mystery is lost when you know too much.

I hope to continue photographing animals…not only in zoos but in their own natural habitats.
